09/27/2019

"Philosophies of love and rumors of conjugal relationships at the University of Cape Coast, 2004-2009." was the topic of the 6th Kwabena Nketia Centre for African Studies at the African University College of Communications (A.U.C.C), which was delivered by Mr. Charles Prempeh, a PhD Candidate at the University of Cambridge, U.K and a lecturer of African Studies at A.U.C.C.

The lecture focused on understanding the relationship between sexual relationships and culture. It focused on how students in the tertiary institutions conducted sexual relationships in Ghana with particular focus on University of Cape Coast.

After the meeting, questions were asked by a cross-section of participants. Some of the questions include;

Mr. Prince Ofei Darko asked, "Why are the concepts in the tile were not operationalized? Is there love in romance or romance in love or sex in romance or romance in sex or love in sex or sex in love?"

Mr. Charles Prempeh replied by saying, "The word conjugal is key in the title because the expression of love in his title is in the form of sex."

Dr. Richmond Acquah-Coleman asked, "Why did you involve yourself in the research? For me i believe you are not in the right position to be an authority in the subject hence bias can be seen here and rather he has to be neutral. The ethics of research restraints the operation of immersion and i suggest you look into discourse analysis or I.P.A approach."

Mr. Charles Prempeh replied by saying, "There is a concept of reflexibility and thus not all variables in the environment will permit him to act as an observer."

Mr. Atsu Adzei added his sentiments which was, "During my days in the University of Cape Coast, there was a common understanding especially in churches about the concept of understanding."

And last but not the least, Mr. Kingsley Cyril Mintah asked, "Why did you focus your lecture on a rumor and are you coming from an anthropological approach as a methodology? If not, what approach are you coming from?"

Mr. Charles Prempeh replied by saying,"According to general literature, there is evidence that gossip or rumors was the basic catalyst to human communication thus validating why i used rumors and secondly i am not coming from an anthropological approach."
