AUCC signs MoU with Adabraka Atukpui Stool

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA - The African University College of Communications on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Adabraka Atukpai Stool to foster the spread of the GaDangbe language.

The MoU signing paves the way for upgrading knowledge and skills of teachers of the GaDangbe language and offer leadership as well as governance training to the traditional authority at the AUCC Adabraka Campus.

The MoU will forge partnership between the Stool and the AUCC as a provider of educational instructional service for the Adabraka Stool in helping to preserve GaDangbe language and culture as well as bring traditional leadership up to speed with modern global relevance.

Under the MoU, AUCC is expected to package special courses to be known as 'GaDangbe Renaissance Course' that will enable the school to upgrade knowledge and skills of teachers of the GaDangbe language at its Adabraka campus.

The Adabraka Atukpai Stool, however, will provide requisite critical mass of GaDangbe teachers for the GaDangbe Renaissance course.

The Stool is also expected to provide the requisite critical mass of traditional leaders for the Strategic Global Relevance Course.

Prof Margaret Crabbe, the President of AUCC said the School had been engaged in conversations with the Stool for some time now and considered highly, the need to promote and preserve the GaDangbe language.

She said the School was taking the initiative to preserve Ghanaian language as it starts the school of communications in a few months' time.

Prof Crabbe said helping teachers to know how to teach and write the GaDangbe language would translate into encouraging pupils to learn how to read and write the GaDangbe language.

Nii Tetteh Adjabeng II, Chief of Adabraka Atukpai said there was the need for other traditional area to adopt the same approach to ensure that the GaDangbe became a prevailing language in Accra.

He said a committee would be set to up to know how to structure the introduction of the course adding that, there was the need for the committee to work speedily.

Mrs Elizabeth Sackey, the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, said the initiative to strengthen the use of the GaDangbe language was laudable and commended the two parties for entering into the agreement.

She said the agreement would help instil a sense of belonging in the community as well as teach the young ones to be proud of their culture.
